About Us

The Young Men’s Institute Education Foundation

Our History

The YMI Education Foundation was incorporated on March 12, 1958 for the express purpose of receiving donations to support annually the education of our fellow deceased member’s children. Recently a matching fund scholarship program for councils was added, as well as a college scholarship for children and grandchildren of living members.

The Foundation’s Board of Directors is composed of respected YMI members whose professions encompass the legal, investment, and administrative disciplines to manage the funds.  Twelve directors elected from the YMI membership at large, and including three Grand Officers, serve to direct the Foundation.

Your support through gifts of prayer for deceased ones and memorable occasions help to educate our children.

Actions Done by the Board of Directors

Since its inception, the Foundation has given tuition help to over 462 children, with spending to date of over $500,000.

The Foundation has instituted a matching funds program with all the councils to help facilitate scholarships to students of their councils up to a maximum of Five Hundred Dollars ($750) per council.

In 2004, the Foundation awarded its first annual $2000 college scholarship, specifically created for living YMI members, their children and grandchildren.

Any type of charitable gift in the form of cash or bequeaths are always accepted and are tax deductible.
